NIU is a well-balanced university in Taiwan. NIU not only focus on academic research, deliver quality teaching and serve its social responsibility are equally important for the faculty.
One example is Prof. Bor-Yann Chen from Department of Chemical & Materials Engineering who was granted the Professor Yen-Ping Shih Paper Award for the 4th time this year. This Award is set to honor the distinguished academic performer in Chemical Engineering filed in Taiwan. In the awarding ceremony, Prof. Chen especially gave thanks to his research team for their long-term devotions.
Another example is Prof. Li-John Jou, the Chair of Department of Biomechatronic Engineering re-designed his course as a “sandwich” program. Students enrolled his Electrical Engineering course at sophomore year spend 2 hours lectures and 3 hours practice per week. Students loved the practice so much. Prof. Jou also led a group of students to attend robot contest for many years. This group had won many champions in Taiwan. Many graduated students who ever participated in this team have higher salary than average university graduates.
For community services, Prof. Yu-An Lin from Department of Biotechnology and Animal Science whose expertise in chemical-free cosmetics making, shared his knowledge with Yilan local community. In an event hosted by Yilan Tourism International Association, Prof. Lin showed participant steps to make natural facial cream at little costs.
