Directed by Prof. Ying-Ren Chien and Prof. De-Nan Lee, NIU students’ entry stood out from all the other 137 ones and won the golden medal in the Product Design group of the 2017 IED competition. The competition was directed by Department of Information and Technology Education, Ministry of Education, containing two main groups, Product Design and Creative Concept which contains four topics.
NIU students applied the techniques of RFID, Arduino and IoT to design an app for egg farmers. The app can integrate data such as laying house environment, laying time and weights of eggs, helping farmers with monitoring and measuring egg production rate of individual laying hens. Through eliminating laying hens with low productivity, farmers can maintain the average egg production rate of their farms. Judges said that the cross-disciplinary design can solve problems of livestock nowadays, achieving the goal of Product Design group.
