About

Mechanical engineering is mother of industry. All technological industries included optical-electrical industries, semiconductor industry, metal and mechanical industries need the expertise in mechatronic engineering. To match with the requirement of automatic  and computerization society, our department offers the students not only theoretical and application curriculums but also computer-aided engineering, drawing and manufacturing courses, mechatronic engineering courses and micro-electro-mechanical courses to make students have strong capabilities in handling the multi-field problems.  Researches and developments in our department right now concentrate on computer-aided design and engineering, naro/micro-meter technologies, precision mechanical system and advanced clear power system, mechatronic engineering system, micro-electric-mechanicals, automatic control and green power engine. All students graduated from our department will have very strong competition abilities and nice future.

Educational Objectives

Mechanical and Electro-Mechanical Engineering is the foundation to the entire manufacturing industry. Even high tech industries such as computer and IC manufacturing depend on precision manufacturing equipments. To help our nation raise its technology standard and production capability, our department trains students in both theories and applications in mechanical engineering. Our graduates possess the skills of designing, manufacturing, controlling, operating and maintaining machinery. In addition, they are familiar with integrated mechanical systems and manufacturing processes, and are able to conduct computer-aided design.

Department Outlook

The Department’s emphasis in teaching and research in the future will be in the following areas:
(1) Composite material and CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering)
(2) Micro-electro-mechanical systems
(3) Precision systems
(4) Mechatronics systems
(5) Computer-aided design and manufacturing
(6) Nano / Micro system development

Program of Study
The Department has developed a curriculum that provides students with a broad base on which they can build an engineering career. To obtain a B.S.M.E. degree, a student has to complete a minimum of 140 credit hours of work, of which 28 are for required common courses and 78 are for required courses in his major. According to his interests and career goal, a student alos completes 20 credit hours of the elective courses offered by the Department. Five areas of concentration are offered: thermal and fluid science, solid mechanics, electro-mechanical design, manufacturing and material processing, and system of control.
