[2017-07-25] UDN Reported: NIU will establish an Innovation College at the new Yilan Science Park campus

The 26.7 hectare land located right beside Yilan Science Park was officially handed over to NIU on 2017 July 13, approved by the Executive Yuan. This new campus will be used to set up an Innovation College as the base to nurture startup and entrepreneurship in Yilan.

This area originally was given to National Tsing Hua University to establish its Yilan campus in 2000. After 14 years, NTHU decided not to develop this area, since then, NIU devoted many resources to take over this place. Finally in July 13, 2017, this land is officially become one of NIU’s campus.

NIU President Po-Ching Wu said NIU has allocated appropriate fund to develop this land. President Wu added in this new campus, there are 6 historical aircraft stations since Japanese colonial time. These aircraft stations will be recovered by Yilan Cultural Affairs Bureau, and which will add a historical beauty of the new campus.

“We will start the new campus development project right away to fulfill the high expectation of local citizens”, concluded by President Wu. It is believed NIU Yilan Science Park campus will become the significant contributor of the development for Yilan industry innovation.
